A few handmade Valentines cards have dropped through the letterbox. I loved the personal touches including the hand written note from California, the individual styles and the bright colours, especially the flowers on the Jess Phoenix painting.
Next year, I will be inspired to write a more personal note and add a bit of colour.
Inspired by an article in The Great Discontent about a fellow lover of snail mail, art director Julia Parris. Julia opened up her personal Valentines project up to the public in 2013, the yearly handmade valentine exchange helps to share the love around the globe.
Armed with pencils and my sewing machine, I set out to create 10 cards and be part of this year’s swap. As love comes in all colours, pink and lots of hearts were dispensed with. In their place was a quote hand drawn on each card, with stitched couples in love.
“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.”
William Shakespeare, All’s well that ends well
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
Martin Luther King,Jr
Happy Valentines Day
